Kickstarter Challenge 2024 Finalist: Kylie Wallace
Kylie Wallace, a visionary entrepreneur from Victoria, has been recognised as a finalist in this year’s Kickstarter Challenge for Climate Change and Sustainability. With the launch of her business, Upcycle, she aims to make decluttering effortless while promoting sustainability by allowing people to outsource the sale of their quality secondhand products. Chosen from over 300 entries, Kylie’s innovative approach has impressed judges with her commitment to reducing waste.
In a remarkably short time, Upcycle has generated $62,000 in revenue from its first six customers, with one home in Brighton earning an astonishing $12,000 in just one week! Kylie’s dedicated team handles everything from photography to online listings, charging a call-out fee and sharing the profits.
“Many Australians have nearly $7,000 worth of unused items at home, but they often lack the time or motivation to sell,” Kylie explains. Upcycle offers a trusted solution that addresses both environmental concerns and market needs.
“People often fear being scammed, which is why a reliable intermediary like Upcycle is essential. We not only promote sustainability and circular economy practices but also offer a strong and scalable business opportunity,” she adds.
The Upcycle team has set an ambitious goal of diverting 30% of Melbourne’s household goods from landfill within the next three years. Since launching in 2023, they have sold enough items to fill two 25-meter-long swimming pools!
